Folk Festival Time

We began our week as usual, planning brew days and prepping yeast. This week we brewed a 5 bbl. batch of our Bohemian Rhapsody Pilsner. Some of the staff has asked for the Italian pilsner again, and we'll try and fit that in soon. Brent got the Bock-N-Ale-Ya kegged and we tapped that today. It's a pretty tasty smooth brew, brewed with springtime in mind. And for all you Guinnevere lovers (you know who you are!), we'll brew that next week.

We also ran out of lemon ginger Time of the Saison, so we tapped Stone's Throw Pear Guavara cider. This is a tart refresher at 5%. We also tapped our Snow Queen Mint Chocolate Coffee Stout, which we hadn't made for some time. Irish Upon A Star Oatmeal Stout, Brown-Eyed Girl, Kolsch from the Cold, Cloud 9Hopy Hay IPA, Red Ryeder Rye Ale, Brahma Fear IPA, Hot Coco and Coco Chan-Ale chocolate brown ales, and Oat of Sight Oat of Mind Scottish are also on the beer list.

For people familiar with Stone County and Mountain View, you know Folk Festival is this coming weekend, April 18-19. This means a lot of events and people on the courthouse square, and the unofficial opening of visitor season. For us, it means a lot of folks traveling through and stopping in at Gravity. If you're out and about this weekend, keep an eye out for all the spring flowers - narcissus, iris, locust, weigela, Japanese rose, dogwood, violets...the list goes on.

Time for Celestiale!

As most of you know, we had a wringing wet weekend last week. We were lucky, our power went out late in the day on Friday, but that was pretty much the worst thing. We worked at the house during the downpour. We decided to brew a batch of our Celestiale IPA this week, and headed to the brewery on Monday. Holy cow, our road in the hollow was an absolute mess! Evidently it became a creek. New ditches, gravel in the field, and some pretty treacherous driving. We made it out, but decided we'd take the long way home.

We brewed a 5 bbl batch over Monday and Tuesday, did a bit more sealing - Chuck and Bill's caulking job worked pretty darn well last week. We also began putting up some more beer decor in the new space. Once we know it's all in the dry, we can begin on shelving and such.

We signed up for the Taste of Arkansas Craft Beverage fest to be held in Little Rock at the end of May. This is an inauugural Arkansas Brewers Guild event, highlighting the good eats and drinks we have here in our state. We'll be doing the honors from 12 noon to 5 pm at First Security Amphitheater in downtown Little Rock. Mark your calendars!

We tapped out of Hoppy Together India Red on Saturday, so we have Brahma Fear back on tap. The lemon ginger Time of the Saison is holding out, although one of us is doing her best to drink it all! The Irish Upon A Star is particularly tasty, and we know a few folks who are happy that our Scottish is back on tap. Mild Thang!, Brown-Eyed Girl, Kolsch from the Cold, Cloud 9 Hoppy Hazy IPA, Red Ryeder Rye Ale, Nightfall India Black Ale, Coco ChanAle and Hot Coco chocolate browns round out the beer menu.

Back in the Saddle...

We took a little time off to go to Cincinnati for the annual Luck of the Irish beer memorabilia show. This year we went for the whole weekend, and B got a few more items for his breweriana collection. While we were there, we also visited a couple of breweries - fancy that - and did another beer cellar tour. This time we went into the Linck Cellars, and our guide was an energetic Australian. Miranda was fun and informative, and the tour involved three adjoining cellars. We'd hoped to go into the Jackson cellars, but, oh well, another trip.

Once we returned home, we got to deal with some of the aftermath of the storms, particularly our home internet; along with a few other things. In order to get back and forth to the brewery, we have to drive through the mess that the tornado left behind in Fifty Six. The last couple of days, highway crews are picking up the limbs, trees, and debris by the road. It makes for a bit of a wait on the highway but they've picked up a lot of the stuff. After seeing it, we're still amazed that no one was hurt. We have a couple of friends right along that stretch, and their buildings took a direct hit. Sheez. Gaping holes in the landscape, big trees gone, houses thrashed or wearing tarps. It's really awful. Folks are trying to get things into shape, working on their buildings and land, but it must be tiring at least.

Today we brewed another 2.5 bbl batch of Brown-Eyed Girl, seeing how it's been in demand. Tomorrow we'll finish the batch. Brent has kegged some of the beers, so we have a few empty fermenters to fill. Hoppy Together IRA is about to tap out, along with the Lemon Ginger Saison. Spring has sprung; our redbuds, dogwoods, and japonica are all doing great. We're expecting another round of wet weather, this weekend, however, so get prepared!
