Festival of Darkness this weekend

10/23/2025

We looked in our barrel room and decided it was time to keg the Flandemonium from nearly two years ago. So we got that done on Tuesday; it needs to be chilled and carbed but man, do they taste good! We brewed another batch of Flandemonium and put it right back into the two freshly emptied barrels. We'll look at the other Flandemoniums waiting their turn in a few months.

We'll be heading down to Little Rock this weekend and invading Lost Forty on Saturday for the annual Festival of Darkness. This year's sub-theme is Rodeo of No Return so we hope to see zombie cowboys and the like, along with some tasty beers and good friends. Come join us on Saturday afternoon/evening!

We were delighted to see the good turnout in the state last weekend for No Kings rallies!

Festivals and Anniversaries

We've gotten two festivals under our belts so far, and looking forward to the next two. Both ARKtoberfest and Little Rocktoberfest were great fun. Only two of us were able to get to the Mountain Home fest, so that limited us trying beers and seeing folks, but we got in as much as we could. We were able to stay over and go to the BCCA Arktoberfest Show and Sale (if you don't know, BCCA is beer collectibles of all kinds -cans, displays, bottles, signs, you name it). Four of us went to Little Rocktoberfest, so we were all able to get out and try more brews. We also entered our Guinnevere Belgian Strong Golden Ale into CAF's Brewery of the year - and won! Woohoo!

So, brewing. We brewed a batch of our Humble Beginnings Porter - so called because it was the first batch brewed at Gravity. We also prepped for Festival of Darkness, which is happening 10/25 at Lost Forty brewing in Little Rock. They always put on a show with a zombie theme, with an added twist - this year, it's Rodeo of No Return. Tickets go quickly, so get yours if you're planning on going.

Gravity's 12th anniversary is on 10/31 and 11/1 this year! Friday we'll have Steve Sutterfield and Kathy Jensen playing, along with potluck and any costumes you care to wear. Saturday brings us Ray and Sue Creasy and friends, and costumes if you want. Come out and help us round out our 12th!

Grapefruit Juicyfruit IPA is finally on tap and it's flying out the door!

It's Beer Fest Season

We were finally able to tap our Eight Misbehavin' Oktoberfest this week - Oct. 1, to be exact. It's a bigger batch than usual and took its own sweet time about getting ready, and we didn't rush it. The result is smooth and malty, and a delight to drink. We'll be bringing it to all he festivals we'll be attending this month. On Saturday, Oct. 4th, we'll be in Mountain Home of ARKtoberfest, the annual fest put on by the good folks at Rapp's Barren. It runs from 2 - 7 pm. They've added a few new things this year and it looks to be a good time as usual. Proceeds are donated to the Backpack Project, which feeds food-insecure schoolkids. Come join us! The weather should be great and there will be bands playing, plus a play area for kids.

We've brought in a few more beer memorabilia items, some for the walls, and some in the display cases. We're getting low on a few beers  Skippin' Stones SIPA, Summertime Brew, and Bohemian Rhapsody Pilsner. We expect the SIPA to go real soon. We've got other beers waiting in the wings, including that slow Grapefruit Juicyfruit IPA!

A Long Time!

Well, I was finally able to get back into the site! Not sure what was going on but oh well. Anyway, we're into the festival months, where there's some sort of gathering every weekend until Thanksgiving.  We'll be attending three of these fall fests - ARKtoberfest in Mountain Home on Oct. 4, Little Rocktoberfest in North Little Rock on Oct. 11, and Festival of Darkness in Little Rock on Oct. 24. Come join us and all the other breweries at these events!

Meanwhile, back at the brewery, Bill and Chuck have been working on getting our number 9 fermenter up and running  inbetween all the other things that need to get done - glycol chillers, walk-in chillers, AC units, brewing, teaching, vacations, et cetera. We're getting ready to carb our Eight Misbehavin' Oktoberfest and Brown-Eyed Girl. We also brewed a small batch of Cleveland Brown Oatmeal Ale and Over the Moon Imperial IPA, which is on tap now. We tried a new saison yeast and flavored it with fruit, so we have John's Muscadine Saison, as well as a hibiscus, lemon-ginger, and plum. Our long-awaited grapefruit IPA is taking its own sweet time about carbing but we hope to have it on tap soon.

Our 12th anniversary is coming up! We plan to celebrate on October 31 as usual, and our actual anniversary date, November 1 as well. We'll have a few new beers as well as our usuals. Stay tuned for more info and plan to join us for our 12th year celebration!

We decided not to brew this week, but we did get caught up on some other things at the brewery. Brent and Sarah came in on Monday to help seal the other half of the tasting room expansion. Bill also brought out a few beer crates and adjusted the lighting so that you can see them a little better. On Tuesday Bill and Chuck added gravel to our parking lot, which it needed! Today we were going to can our Wham Bam Five Minute Hazy IPA, but it didn't get up to the proper carbonation, so that job is on hold for now. We took samples of our beers in the barrel aging room, and man, those Flanders Red ales are coming along nicely! We decided to keg the Berry Superstitious (which has been in a bourbon keg) and got about one half-barrel out of it.

We didn't tap out of anything this past week, so our beer menu hasn't changed. We still have both chocolate beers, the Mild Thang! and Sojourner Double Oat Stout are hanging in there. Brown-Eyed Girl, Kolsch from the Cold, Cloud Nine Hoppy Hazy IPA, Red Ryeder Rye Ale, Hoppy Together IRA, Nightfall IBA, lemon ginger Time of the Saison, and May the Schwarzbier With You are the rest of our offerings. Our weather should be nice this weekend - at least, that's what is said for now! if you're out and about, the trees are just showing a smudge of color, daffodils are peeking out, serviceberries are tipped with the tiniest of blooms.

July 4th is upon us

It's been really busy at the brewery lately and it's been hard to get at this blog, so a lot of catching up to do! We have canned most of the latest batch of Wham Bam 5 Minute Hazy IPA. We've also been trying a different saison yeast; we don't like it as well as our old standby, but its okay. So we've flavored half of the batch with John H's muscadines and lemon ginger, and we'll do the rest with plum and hibiscus - separately! Bramble On Cider has been flying out the door since we began making it again, so Brent's been pretty busy with it.

Last Saturday, in honor of our homebrewer friends from Central Arkansas Fermenters and Twin Lakes Homebrewers, we tapped a keg of Flandemonium Flanders Red, as well as the only keg of SourStitious Belgian Ale, a riff on our Berry Superstitious. Get 'em while we got 'em!

We're pleased to welcome our friend and patron Shaan Choppala back for a comedy show on Saturday, July 5th. He was lots of fun last time. Since he grew up in Stone County, he had a lot of great stories to tell. He's also done some homebrewing and some cooking, in addition to the comedy. He'll begin at 5 pm, which should allow for enough time to see his show, grab a growler or two, and get out to the last fireworks shows. This year Calico Rock does their show on Thursday; Mountain View, Fox, and Big Flat on Friday; and Fifty Six and JoJo's at Allison on Saturday. However you celebrate the Fourth, have fun and do it safely!

Cider is Working!

We tapped out of our kegs of Stone's Throw Pear Guavara cider a little while back, but we got our ingredients delivered (finally!!) so that we can make cider again. Brent got right into it, and it's working away. We'll get it kegged ASAP!

We want to give a big shout-out to all of our friends that shared their talents with us this past week! We really enjoyed it! And a special thanks to Rockin' R BBQ - we heard you sold out on Friday!

This week we did two brew days, brewing a 5 bbl batch of Wham Bam 5 Minute Hazy IPA with Chuck and Ethan. we'll probably can part of it, as we've done before. We think we 've got the operation dialed in now. Bill's been hanging a few more items in the expanded tasting room and doing a few odds and ends around the building.

Memorial weekend is almost upon us, and we put another lighter beer on the menu - Bohemian Rhapsody Pilsner. Brent just kegged this, and it's bright and fresh as ever. Brahma Fear IPA is winding down, as is Coco Chan-Ale Chocolate Brown. We also offer Bock-N-Ale-Ya, Irish upon a Star Oatmeal Stout, Brown-Eyed Girl, Kolsch from the Cold, Wham Bam Hazy IPA, Java Jive Coffee Stout, Hot Coco Chocolate Brown, Falling Star ESB, and Oat of Sight Oat of Mind Scottish Ale. Come by and get your growlers to go for the long weekend!

A Quick Update...

...to say that friend and patron Chris Weir will sit in tonight and play his self-penned tunes for us! Here's hoping that the weather stays good for another night! Tomorrow, Steve Sutterfield and Kathy Jensen will grace us with their own music. Both programs begin about 6-ish. We're hoping Rockin'R BBQ will be able to come back out and that things went well with their family members. Java Jive Coffee Stout and Flandemonium Flanders Red Ale are on tap!

What's Goin' On?

We've been pretty swamped at home and at work, so I've been lax in getting info out. We've been wrestling with getting ingredients delivered to the brewery, but we think - hope - we have that all ironed out. We did get Guinnevere Strong Golden Ale brewed and plan to package part of it, as we usually do. It's bubbling along nicely and being its usual tasty self. We decided to get in the lighter beers for the warmer months, so we also got a 5 bbl batch of Summertime Brew going. But our yeast didn't want to cooperate! We had some extra, and adding that to the batch did the trick. We ended up brewing on an open day, which is a bit unusual for us. This week we brewed a 5 bbl batch of Skippin' Stones session IPA, Sarah's "creek beer". Next week we plan to do a batch of time of the Saison, but with a different Belgian yeast this time.

We visited with our friend Marty Shutter a while back and since he's written some new songs, he'll be over next Thursday to show them off! So come join us on May 15 at 5 pm. The next day, Friday May 16th brings Chris Weir out to Gravity, and Saturday, May 17th brings Sutterfield and Jensen out to us. Adding to the fun, Rockin' R BBQ from Marshall will be on site all weekend!

This week, we tapped out of Stone's Throw Pear Guavara cider, so Falling Star ESB is back in the rotation for now. For all you cider fans, we will be getting back into making cider again soon. We are close to tapping out of Bock-N-Ale-Ya and Brahma Fear IPA. For our dark beer fans, Irish Upon A Star Oatmeal Stout and Snow Queen Mint Chocolate Coffee Stout are on tap, as well as the two "Coco" brews. Brown-Eyed Girl, Kolsch from the Cold, Wham Bam Hazy IPA, Red Ryeder Rye Ale, and Oat of Sight Oat of Mind Scottish Ale are also on the beer menu.

Folk Festival Time

We began our week as usual, planning brew days and prepping yeast. This week we brewed a 5 bbl. batch of our Bohemian Rhapsody Pilsner. Some of the staff has asked for the Italian pilsner again, and we'll try and fit that in soon. Brent got the Bock-N-Ale-Ya kegged and we tapped that today. It's a pretty tasty smooth brew, brewed with springtime in mind. And for all you Guinnevere lovers (you know who you are!), we'll brew that next week.

We also ran out of lemon ginger Time of the Saison, so we tapped Stone's Throw Pear Guavara cider. This is a tart refresher at 5%. We also tapped our Snow Queen Mint Chocolate Coffee Stout, which we hadn't made for some time. Irish Upon A Star Oatmeal Stout, Brown-Eyed Girl, Kolsch from the Cold, Cloud 9Hopy Hay IPA, Red Ryeder Rye Ale, Brahma Fear IPA, Hot Coco and Coco Chan-Ale chocolate brown ales, and Oat of Sight Oat of Mind Scottish are also on the beer list.

For people familiar with Stone County and Mountain View, you know Folk Festival is this coming weekend, April 18-19. This means a lot of events and people on the courthouse square, and the unofficial opening of visitor season. For us, it means a lot of folks traveling through and stopping in at Gravity. If you're out and about this weekend, keep an eye out for all the spring flowers - narcissus, iris, locust, weigela, Japanese rose, dogwood, violets...the list goes on.
